The Huayao, a subgroup of the Yao ethnic group, is predominantly settled in the alpine regions spanning the border of Longhui and Xupu Counties in Hunan Province, China. Their relative isolation, historically attributable to inaccessibility and socio-cultural barriers, has fostered the preservation of a distinct sartorial culture and rich intangible cultural heritage. This paper conducts a comprehensive bibliometric analysis based on Citespace software to map the intellectual landscape of scholarly research on the Huayao. Data were retrieved from the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database, encompassing literature published from 1986 onwards. The analysis incorporates multiple methodologies: keyword co-occurrence analysis, collaboration network analysis (both institutional and author-based), cluster analysis, timeline and timezone views of keyword evolution, and burst detection. The study aims to delineate the research trajectory, identify evolving thematic foci, and forecast emerging trends in Huayao studies over the past four decades. The findings are intended to provide a systematic reference for the academic community, facilitating a deeper understanding of the field's development and informing future research directions.
