Objective: This study explores the innovative reinterpretation of the frog motif in Li brocade by integrating semiotic theory, shape grammar, and parametric design. It aims to revitalize this totemic element of intangible cultural heritage and examine its potential in cross-disciplinary and contemporary design applications. Methods: A four-dimensional semiotic framewor— context, syntactics, semantics, and pragmatics— guides the analysis of the motif ’ s morphological evolution, symbolic meaning, and totemic significance. Shape grammar is applied to extract core visual elements and compositional rules. Using parametric tools in Rhino ’s Grasshopper plugin, the motifs are algorithmically reconstructed and diversified. Results: The study produces a series of motif designs that retain traditional symbolic features while aligning with modern aesthetics. These patterns are successfully applied to textile products, demonstrating the effective translation of cultural symbolism into functional design. Parametric methods improve design efficiency, adaptability, and creative potential. Conclusion: Integrating semiotics with parametric design proves both feasible and scalable. This approach supports the contemporary expression of Li visual culture and offers a methodological path for translating traditional motifs into modern design contexts.
